Punjab Police Intensify Crackdown on Human Trafficking Amid Rising Concerns

Amritsar, Punjab – In a decisive move against human trafficking, the Punjab Police have registered two additional cases against immigration agents, bringing the total number of cases lodged to ten. This action follows the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) aimed at investigating illegal immigration practices, particularly after a recent incident involving a U.S. military flight that brought 104 deportees, including 30 from Punjab, back to India.

Formation of Special Investigation Team

The SIT, established on February 7, is composed of four dedicated members who are tasked with uncovering the complexities of human trafficking and illegal immigration networks operating in the region. This development comes in light of growing public concern regarding the safety and rights of individuals being lured into illegal migration schemes under false pretenses.

Recent FIRs and Identified Suspects

The newly registered First Information Reports (FIRs) specifically target alleged agents who have deceived individuals by promising illegal pathways to the United States. Among those named in the investigations are Jaskaran Singh, Mahinder Singh, Hardev Kaur, Sujan Singh, and a perpetrator known as Happy, all of whom are residents of Tanda in Hoshiarpur. Additionally, an agent identified simply as Gill from Tarn Taran has also come under scrutiny.

Call for Public Cooperation

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav has emphasized the importance of community involvement in tackling these fraudulent networks. “Public cooperation is essential in dismantling these fraudulent networks,” Yadav stated, urging citizens to provide any pertinent information that could assist in the apprehension of these travel agents.

Ongoing Efforts and Successes

Additional Director General of Police (NRI Affairs) Praveen Sinha highlighted the collaborative efforts between the SIT and local police forces, noting that they are actively working with district police chiefs to disrupt the operations of those facilitating illegal migrations. The police have previously made significant strides over the past year, having registered 43 cases against travel agencies that unlawfully advertised overseas job opportunities on social media, often without the necessary licenses.

This latest initiative by the Punjab Police underscores the region’s commitment to combatting human trafficking and ensuring the protection of its residents from exploitation and deceit. As the investigation continues, authorities remain vigilant and proactive in their efforts to address this critical issue.
